UK film distributor Adrienne Fancey became the first woman in the United Kingdom to head her own distribution company, New Realm Entertainment.
The New Realm Group of Companies was founded in 1938 by E. J. Fancey as New Realm Pictures, Distributors and Producers. The company distributed movies from USA studios and producers among them David Selznick and Sam Goldwyn. Adrienne Fancey was appointed managing director in 1960 and bought several European movies, among them Emmanuelle which broke all distribution records in the UK. Recent films distributed by New Realm include The Butterfly & The Diving Bell, The Queen, Mrs. Henderson Presents, Grow Your Own and Volver.
Adrienne grew up in the film industry. She went to Europe to buy films for the UK market, and also devoted time to acting in films during the 1950s. She followed her fatherís footsteps into producing films including The World is Full of Married Men written by her friend Jackie Collins. She became the UKís first woman managing director of her own distribution company.
Adrienne continues her interest in the film industry by sponsoring The Best Film Award at the first annual Womenís International Film & Television Showcase which makes its premiere at the Pacific Design Centerís Silverscreen Theater on December 4-7, 2008.
