Quinn Simpson
Life Coach
Co-Founder Akosia

Quinn views the world as limitless and full of opportunity. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, she attended The Bishop Strachan School where she learned the importance of having a dream and the courage to make that dream become a reality. After graduating from high school, Quinn traveled to the United Kingdom to study at the University of Edinburgh and fulfill her interest in human behavior, society and culture.

She graduated with an MA in Sociology and Social Anthropology after writing a dissertation that examined self-help books. More specifically, from a sociological perspective she looked at their impact and influence on adolescent girls. The conclusion was clear: youth need a personal interaction with someone who has been through similar life experiences.

This led her in search of a way to reach young people and when she found life coaching, it was a perfect match. Quinn completed her training to become an accredited life coach and now practices as a Business and Youth Coach with Striding Out in London, England. In addition, under the guise of 'Coach Quinn', she coaches young people all over the world.
Through her coaching and volunteer work, Quinn aims to instill a sense of optimism and hope in others. She promotes the power of choice, self-awareness and openly claims that her life secret is never allowing herself to say "no". Rather, she believes one must engage their dream or desire with "How could it happen?"

Quinn's deep passion to work with children and young adults has led her to volunteer with several organizations over the last 10 years such as Extend-A-Family, Homelink and local youth centers in both Toronto and London. These experiences have shaped her belief that our systems are in need of transformation and led her to create Akosia.

Akosia, a London based charity, aims to bring creative projects to children and women in every country around the world. Its core tenet is a belief that active engagement in a creative activity sparks imagination and provides an outlet for creative expression. Its mission is to provide an engaging and safe environment where underprivileged children and women's natural abilities can be expressed and nurtured.

The Akosia tenet is to provide a structured platform from which the children and women can develop their creativity and enable them to produce something that they can be proud of. It is a fundamental Akosia goal to broaden its participants' horizons, open their eyes to the possibilities of their own creativity and collective efforts, and aid them in giving back to their communities.

Akosia involves artistic professionals – filmmakers, musicians, writers, artists – and teachers in its projects to build an environment in which the children and women are guided through a creative process while being encouraged to respond to their own initiatives and ideas. The children and women learn a variety of communication and management skills, which enable them to express themselves, build self-confidence and explore their imagination through experiential learning rather than being 'taught' in a conventional manner. This creates a tremendous sense of accomplishment and inner confidence that the children and women will carry with them.

For her work as a life coach and for having been a co-founder of Akosia, Quinn Simpson has been selected by TheWIFTS Foundation to receive the 2013 Arts Advocate Award.
