Emily Hubley, a world renowned animator for her hand-drawn films that are her unique style, is the recipient of TheWIFTS Animation Award 2014.

Emily Hubley's films are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, Department of Film. Her feature, The Toe Tactic, was developed at the Sundance Institute's Screenwriters' and Filmmakers' Labs. The Toe Tactic premiered theatrically at the Museum of Modern Art in 2009 and was released on DVD by Kino International (2009). In 2008, the film screened at numerous prestigious film festivals including SXSW, New Directors/New Films and the San Francisco and Rio de Janeiro International Film Festivals.

Ms. Hubley has been making animated shorts for thirty years. Her hand-drawn films explore personal memory and the turbulence of emotional life. Her short, and/or, screened at the San Francisco International Film Festival, Rooftop Films, animation festivals in Poland and Hiroshima and (among others) the Black Maria Film Festival. Ms. Hubley's film about hate crime victims, Hail (2011), screened at the San Francisco, Sarasota and Provincetown International Film Festivals.

Recent projects include Write Back (2014), a music video for The dB's, which premiered at Cinefamily's Animation Breakdown in Los Angeles. Hubley provided animation for Diane Whitten's documentary Vessel (2014), winner of a Special Jury Prize and the SXSW Audience Award. Current projects include documentaries: Danny Says by Brendan Toller and Linda Moroney's Turn the Page.

Among Hubley's previous shorts are Octave, Pigeon Within, Her Grandmother's Gift (made with mother, Faith), The Tower (made with sister Georgia) and Delivery Man. Hubley's shorts have shown at countless film festivals; programs of her films have screened at The Museum of Modern Art, the Tribeca Film Festival, the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar and on the Southern Circuit Tour.

Ms. Hubley produced animated pieces for Motherhood Out Loud (2010- 2012), a play directed by Lisa Peterson, at Hartford Stage, at the Geffen Playhouse and at Primary Stages in NYC.

Hubley's company, Hubbub Inc., created short form series for the Nickelodeon and Lifetime. Ms. Hubley created the animated sequences for John Cameron Mitchell's Hedwig and the Angry Inch. With Jeremiah Dickey, she provided inserts for documentaries Everything's Cool and Blue Vinyl by Judith Helfand & Dan Gold, The Boy In The Bubble by Barak Goodman, William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe by Emily and Sarah Kunstler and What's On Your Plate? by Catherine Gund.

Art exhibits include: Animation as Artistic Practice (7/2012) at Harvestworks in NYC, Still Images from Animation by Emily Hubley at Maxwell's, Hoboken NJ (3/2007), Preliminary Animated and Reconstructed Frames at Gallery Urbis-Orbis in St. Louis, MO (6/2004), Pierro @10 at the Pierro Gallery of South Orange, NJ, (3-6/2004), Beyond the Frame at the Hofstra Museum (1999) and The Hubley Studio: A Home for Animation at the Titus Theater Gallery, Museum of Modern Art (1997).

A daughter of pioneer animators Faith and John Hubley, Emily worked on Faith Hubley's films at The Hubley Studio, Inc. from 1977 to 2001. She received a BA from Hampshire College in 1980 and lives in South Orange, NJ.

She's a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
