It is a great honor for me to receive this Lifetime Achievement Award from the Women's International Film & Television Showcase, it only saddens me that my husband, Tony Blanco, cannot be with me to share this moment, as he would be as honored and proud as I am.
I congratulate you on the beautiful initiative to support and celebrate the dedication, passion and integrity of women in film everywhere, and I thank TheWIFTS Board for considering me worthy of this precious award. I am very sorry to be unable to receive it in person. Thank you!

Sonia Paul Deepak
The Elizabeth Grant Entrepreneur Award
Sonia Paul Deepak Entrepreneur
For creating and curating a one of a kind concept store PULP where each item is selected with care to engender the impact of personal relationships, Sonia Paul Deepak is the recipient of The Elizabeth Grant Entrepreneur Award.
Small businesses are the backbone of a community and, by extension, our society. In today's fast-paced technology-driven world, it is both rare and refreshing to find a small business owner with a credo that encapsulates the attention to detail and regard for bringing together our connection through the written word, with very special gifts and one-of-a-kind items for loved ones.
Tucked away on La Brea in Los Angles for the last 19 years is one such establishment: PULP. The secret of PULP's success is many-fold but key to its longevity is Sonia Paul Deepak's personal daily involvement in curating the items for her customers.
Sonia's philosophy and goal in life is summed up in the phrase "do small things with great love," which she has inculcated into her life, her family, her staff and, through her business, to her customers.
In a world that continues to digitize at a dizzying speed, her personal intent with Pulp has been to remind customers of the value and impact of personal relationships, by highlighting and reminding people to stop, to connect, to take a moment to send a smile, to let someone know they are appreciated. These are the goals that motivate Sonia daily at PULP.
Sonia says: "As a small business owner, I have been privy to the trepidations and fears of how events in our world affect our customers. The need to just stop and lend an ear after 9/11 or the Paris attack simply strengthens my resolve to promote kindness and a personal touch to a world spiralling into the preservation of self."
Sonia's customers come back time and time again to share their stories that have been catalyzed by a special card or gift, how they have built a book of memories, or how someone saddened by loss has found a perfect card. In these small ways, Sonia Paul Deepak is making a difference daily in many people's lives.
Since its inception, Deepak has initiated and encouraged local artists to use PULP as a platform to showcase their lines and has mentored them into the best ways to market their products. Watching these artist grow, evolve and prosper has been highlights in Sonia's journey.
Available at PULP, and curated by Sonia, are unique products for home decor and accessories, baby gifts, kitchenware, books and paper, fashion and jewelry, and a celebrated collection of cards that encourage the handwritten greeting.
Through her combination of attention to detail and nurturing of local talent, Deepak has developed the business successfully beyond selling to a smaller segment of the population to well-thought-out sourcing that would be appealing to both the mainstream buyer as well as the higher end clientele; which has expanded to include notable celebrities in the Hollywood area.
Sonia innovated a high-end concierge-like service to access a new customer base with the desire for higher-end gifts, by building strong relationship with executives at film and television Studios.
This service includes suggesting unique curated gifts for all the executive's gifting needs, often just by phone and packaging them in unique paper and delivering them to their requested destinations.
Sonia personally handles this client base to ensure the highest degree of satisfaction and repeat business; this base has been a strong source of steady business in particular during key gifting periods such as Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali and Valentine's Day.
Deepak sources these unique products by attending at least six to seven gift expositions domestically and internationally, and PULP has been featured in the "Best of LA" section of Los Angeles Magazine numerous times.
The evolution of this unique establishment and its success saw Pulp awarded "The Best of LA" award for two years in the greeting cards category and "Best Gift Store" in Los Angeles category.
Sonia Paul Deepak has been a single mother of two incredible sons for a decade now. Deepak was born in Canada and has lived in Los Angeles for 22 years.
She says of making LA home, "It's been an incredible journey."
