TheWIFTS HONORS DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKERS
AT ANNUAL AWARDS EVENT
7th Annual Event Celebrates 20 Women
from 11 Countries & Six Continents
LOS ANGELES – (December 8, 2014) – The Women's International Film Television Showcase (TheWIFTS), honored four standout documentaries from women around the world with TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary Documentary Awards 2014 at its Seventh Annual event in West Hollywood on Saturday, December 6, 2014. Celebrating the work of women from the global community in the fields of Film and Television, Business, The Arts and Humanities, the 2014 event celebrated 20 women from 16 countries and six continents.
TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary Documentary Awards honor those filmmakers whose stories reflect artistic and creative brilliance, family ties, and self-discovery in today's ever changing world.
• Mami Sunad, Director (Japan) was honored for Kingdom of Dreams and Madness, an engrossing documentary that takes us inside Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli, and the work of producer Toshio Suzuke and world renowned filmmakers Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Studio Ghibli is renowned for creating such classics as Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke.
• Amy Glickman Brown, Editor (USA) was honored for The Green Girl, a documentary about Susan Oliver, who portrayed Star Trek's iconic Green Girl. Oliver, who was honored posthumously with TheWIFTS Lifetime Achievement Award 2014, was a prolific actress throughout the '50s – '80s, an original member of the AFI Directing Workshop for Women and a record-setting aviator.
• Mona Friis Bertheussen, Director (Norway) was honored for Twin Sisters, an international documentary about two twin sisters from China, who were separated and adopted into two different corners of the world, USA and Norway. Their sisterhood was meant to be kept secret. However, destiny had other plans.
• Holli Rae & Sara Landas, Co Directors (USA) were honored for The Goddess Project, a documentary about two women on a journey of self-discovery who traveled 10,000 miles across America interviewing incredible everyday women about their paths to self discovery.
The Women's International Film & Television Showcase (TheWIFTS.org) is an organization dedicated to bringing together, through the art form of Film and Television, women from all walks of life: Business, the Humanities, the Environment and the world of Sports. This year's event honored more than twenty women from eleven countries and six continents. The organization prides itself on recognizing women of the twenty-first century who with talent and conviction strive to make a difference in today's world.
