LOS ANGELES – (December 1, 2014) – The Board of The Women's International Film & Television Showcase (TheWIFTS) has inaugurated three new awards and named the recipients who will be honored at the Seventh Annual TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary Awards Luncheon on December 6, 2014. Celebrating the work of women from the global community in the fields of Film and Television, Business, The Arts and Humanities, the event will be held at Knoll restaurant in West Hollywood, Los Angeles.
Sylvie Nissen Awarded TheWIFTS Foundation Award
TheWIFTS Foundation Award recognizes successful women who have shown their generosity through the contribution of fiscal resources as well as their generosity of spirit, by embracing TheWIFTS mandate.
The first recipient is Sylvie Nissen, founder of the Sylvie Nissen Gallery in the lobby of the Hotel Carlton Cannes. In the art world, Sylvie Nissen was in a class of her own. In the 1990s she put into action one of her secret ambitions: to exhibit and promote artists with unclassifiable talent who were 'singular' by a certain lifestyle and elegance. In following this passion she has achieved the rare feat of running a successful business - on an international scale - for more than twenty years.
Sadly, Sylvie Nissen passed away unexpectedly in September 2014. The Sylvie Nissen Gallery generously sponsors The Sylvie Nissen Costume Design Award.
Sonia Grande Wins Inaugural TheWIFTS Costume Design Award
Sylvie Nissen and her business partner Yann de Saint Sulpice, through their contacts in the art world, were instrumental in helping TheWIFTS find an artist to put TheWIFTS concept into the creation of the first award in porcelain in the world. In addition to the Porcelain Award from TheWIFTS, the recipient of this award receives a bracelet from her Collection. This year's (2014) bracelet is a Solid Silver Bangle made from Chocolate Stingray (Galuchat) adorned with precious stones: Peridot, Amethyst, Blue Topaz, Pink Tourmaline, and White Topaz.
The first recipient is Sonia Grande. Known for her work on Midnight in Paris (2011), The Others (2001) and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008), most recently Sonia Grande was costume designer on Woody Allen's Magic in the Moonlight.
Tippi Hedren to Receive The Otilia Award
The Otilia Award is TheWIFTS Animal Advocacy Award. Inaugurated in 2013, the Award is funded by an anonymous Benefactor. The name of the Award has a beautiful origin. A tree planted in memory of a beloved family member, which had not bloomed for three years, blossomed with flowers on the day TheWIFTS Honoree who wishes to remain anonymous received her award in 2013.
The Otilia Award is presented to a woman who has championed the care, rights, security, and well-being of our four legged friends and companions. No one in Hollywood epitomizes these qualities better than legendary actress Tippi Hedren who has been an outspoken advocate for animal rights for decades. Tippi Hedren is founder and President of The Roar Foundation, which supports and shares the mission of The Shambala Preserve, a natural setting she established for rescued big cats. Today, Shambala is home to over 40 big cats: lions, tigers, cougars, black and spotted leopards, servals, bobcats, and Asian leopard cats.
The Women's International Film & Television Showcase (thewifts.org) is an organization dedicated to bringing together, through the art form of Film and Television, women from all walks of life: Business, the Humanities, the Environment and the world of Sports. This year's event will honor more than twenty women from eleven countries and six continents. The organization prides itself on recognizing women of the twenty-first century who with talent and conviction strive to make a difference in today's world.
TheWIFTS Foundation produces TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary Awards, The Women's International Film & Television Showcase, The Women's International Shorts Showcase, and The Women's International Documentary Showcase.
