THE WOMEN’S INTERNATIONAL FILM & TELEVISION SHOWCASE (TheWIFTS FOUNDATION) TO HONOR WRITER/PRODUCER GEORGIA JEFFRIES WITH THE SCREENWRITER AWARD

Los Angeles, CA – Multi-award Winner Writer/Producer Georgia Jeffries will receive the Screenwriter Award for her contribution to television and education at the second annual awards event for The Women’s International Film & Television Showcase (TheWIFTS Foundation) Event at the Andaz Hotel on Friday, December 4, 2009.

The Women's International Film & Television Showcase, TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary Awards – in its second year is screening 14 films and 16 shorts from 11 countries. TheWIFTS screens films and documentaries celebrating the talent and accomplishments of women in the film and television industry worldwide that brings together women from all walks of life through the Art of Film & Television, the 21st Century Visual Communicator.

Jeffries is a multi-award winning writer/producer of ground-breaking television and film drama. Her most recent teleplay is based on the best-selling memoir, Walking Out on the Boys, for Emmy-winning producer David Rosemont.

After scripting the adaptation of Bebe Moore Campbell’s New York Times Notable Book, Your Blues Ain’t Like Mine, for Showtime, she wrote the original docudrama, The Good Soldier, for HBO and was also one of the contributing writers on HBO’s Emmy-winning historical drama, Iron Jawed Angels. Her filmed adaptation of the Joe Flaherty novel, Tin Wife, on which she served as Executive Producer/Writer, aired on USA Network and has been released under the title of My Husband’s Secret Life on Universal Home Video.

In addition to creating ten pilots for ABC, CBS, NBC and Showtime, she was Supervising Producer on the critically acclaimed China Beach. Her script, How To Stay Alive In Viet Nam, starring Oscar winner Haing Ngor, won a Humanitas Prize nomination. The series was recognized with seven Emmys and two Golden Globe nominations for best television drama. She went on to serve as Executive Consultant on the Emmy-winning Sisters, and Co-Executive Producer of New York News.

For three seasons Jeffries was Writer/Producer on Cagney & Lacey, which was honored with fourteen Emmys.

Feature film scripts include Confessions for Universal Pictures and Nobody’s Fool, which won the Gold Award for Best Screenplay at the Houston International Film Festival.

Jeffries is a professor at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts where she became the second woman on the Writing Division faculty to be awarded tenure, teaches MFA and BFA thesis and created the first course in writing the TV drama pilot.

Currently a Contributing Editor for Written By, the magazine of the Writers Guild of America, she serves on the Executive Committee of the WGA Foundation Board of Trustees and is former Executive Vice President of PEN USA West, the international writers’ organization dedicated to freedom of expression. Her commentary is featured in Women Who Run the Show and The Huffington Post.

Georgia Jeffries will be awarded the Screenwriter Award at The Women’s International Film & Television Showcase second annual event on Friday, December 4, 2009.
