Nancy Kwan to be Honored at Opening Night Tribute

Los Angeles, CA – Nancy Kwan will receive the Lifetime Tribute Award for her outstanding contribution to the world of cinema at the second annual awards event for The Women’s International Film & Television Showcase (TheWIFTS Foundation) Event at the Andaz Hotel on Friday, December 4, 2009.

The Women's International Film & Television Showcase, TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary Awards – in its second year is screening 14 films and 16 shorts from 11 countries. TheWIFTS screens films and documentaries celebrating the talent and accomplishments of women in the film and television industry worldwide that brings together women from all walks of life through the Art of Film & Television, the 21st Century Visual Communicator.

Kwan will be honored in an Opening Night Tribute and exclusive Fundraiser Screening and “Meet Nancy Kwan” Cocktail Reception on November 30, 2009, with a screening of To Whom It May Concern: Ka Shen’s Journey, a film by Brian Jamieson, with proceeds benefiting her chosen charity, A Rainbow of Hope, and TheWIFTS Foundation. http://www.thewifts.org/Opening_Night.php

The daughter of a prominent architect, Kwan was born in Hong Kong and educated in England. Catapulted from her native Hong Kong at 18, she became an international star in such famed American Films as The World of Suzie Wong and Flower Drum Song.

While on vacation from school in Hong Kong, she was spotted by famed American producer Ray Stark, then on a hunt to find an Oriental beauty to star in the film version of The World of Suzie Wong. After a number of screen tests in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and London, Kwan finally got the part, starring opposite William Holden. For this role, she was nominated for Best Actress and International Star of Tomorrow by the Hollywood Foreign Press.

Kwan’s second starring role, which allowed her to display her dancing talents, was in Flower Drum Song, based on the acclaimed Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway Musical.

Nancy Kwan will be awarded the first Lifetime Tribute Award at The Women’s International Film & Television Showcase second event on Friday, December 4, 2009.
