THE WOMEN’S INTERNATIONAL FILM & TELEVISION SHOWCASE (TheWIFTS FOUNDATION) TO HONOR COSTUME DESIGNER RUTH CARTER WITH THE COSTUME DESIGN AWARD

Los Angeles, CA – Costume Designer Ruth Carter will receive the Costume Design Award at the second annual awards event for The Women’s International Film & Television Showcase (TheWIFTS Foundation) event at the Andaz Hotel on Friday, December 4, 2009.

The Women's International Film & Television Showcase, TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary Awards – in its second year is screening 14 films and 16 shorts from 11 countries. TheWIFTS screens films and documentaries celebrating the talent and accomplishments of women in the film and television industry worldwide that brings together women from all walks of life through the Art of Film & Television, the 21st Century Visual Communicator.

Ruth Carter is a two-time Academy Award nominee for her work on Spike Lee’s Malcolm X and Steven Spielberg’s Amistad. Her love for costume design began in the theater.

Amongst Carter’s numerous and diverse film credits Do The Right Thing, Mo Better Blues, What’s Love Got To Do With It, And Shaft, Carter has collaborated with Hollywood’s “A-list” directors including Steven Spielberg, John Singleton, Joss Wheadon on the feature films Amistad, Four Brothers and Serenity. She is a long-time collaborator of another “A-lister,” Spike Lee, where her professional career began. Consequently, with Spike, Carter collaborated on 11 of his feature films and numerous commercials. Her most recent released work can be seen in, Imagine That, Black Dynomite, and Spread.

Carter continued her career in 2009 with Halle Berry in the feature film, Frankie And Alice and followed with the new CBS series Miami Trauma. Presently, Ruth is working with Tyler Perry on For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enough, based on the Obie winning play by Ntozoke Shange.

Carter has enjoyed more than 20 years as a professional costume designer for film, television, commercials and theater.
